Jennie Mae Hodgin Edwards passed away peacefully, May 14, 2014 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home, Anderson, SC.
She was born in Greensboro, N.C. to the late Leroy Stanley and Ola Fortner Hodgin. Jennie Mae graduated from Fletcher Academy, Fletcher. NC She continued her education graduating from the Madison College School of Nursing, Madison, TN in 1952. In 1956, she entered the USAF Nurse Corp serving until retirement in 1978 at the rank LT. Colonel. She settled in Cambridge, Maryland until she moved to Greenville, SC in 2001. Jennie Mae lived in Greenville until she was cared for at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home. Of her many assignments her favorite was Alaska. During her Military career and after her retirement, she traveled extensively around the world.
Jennie Mae was preceded in death by her sister, Naomi Mitchell Henson. She is survived by her niece, Charlotte Parsons Frazier (Dennis) and her children: Berry, Brent,
Bradley Parsons and their father Bob Parsons; nephew, Richard (Tommy) Mitchell and daughter, Teresa. She leaves behind many dear friends including Dottie Devaney, Marge Fox, Gayle Norgaard and son Eric. Jennie Mae will be greatly missed including her special cousin, Dianne Robinson (Steve Dunn) who was always there to assist her the past 13 years.
She had an active life as member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary in Cambridge, VFW post 7460, American Legion Post 91, DAV Chapter 31, Military Offices Assoc. and the Society of Air force Nurses.
The family would like to thank everyone involved in her care including PH Healthcare Services Hospice.
Celebration of Life for Jennie Mae will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 2 PM at the Remembrance Chapel, Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville SC 29615. Interment will follow in the cemetery with full Military Honors. Condolences may be sent to family at
