Jefferson Bennett Stone
Bennett Stone, 67, of Travelers Rest died peacefully July 9, 2018 at Elizabeth House Hospice of Flat Rock, NC. Bennett had been employed for many years with the Douglas Company in Greenville and Myrtle Beach areas. He spent many years hunting and fishing on the SC coast, especially shrimping and flounder fishing at Pawley’s Island. For many years his friends would gather for his annual fish fry at Cedar Mountain each fall and the live music would last well into the wee hours of the night.
Born December 4, 1950 in Clearwater Florida he was the middle child of Jane Mills Stone and the late Croft Stone of Greenville.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Missie Duke (Marshall) of Irmo, SC and a brother, Croft Stone, Jr. of Greenville, a niece Prentiss Brewer (Donald), great-niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Jack Brewer of Brevard, NC. and by his chocolate lab, O.P.
A private graveside committal will be held at Christ Church Episcopal, in Greenville at a later date. Friends are invited to the O. P. Mills house On Saturday August 11, to celebrate Bennett’s life at a drop-in between the hours of 10 and 4 for refreshments and hors d'oeuvres. Pictures and memories are welcome to be shared at the party. The family is at 8731 Geer Hwy., Cleveland, SC 29635.
