Janet Meagher Rogers

December 26, 1947 — July 23, 2020

Heaven got a lot more fun on July 23 when our wife, mom, “Mimi,” aunt, sister, cousin and friend, Janet Meagher Rogers passed peacefully from Alzheimer’s disease. Originally from Long Island, NY, Janet called Greenville and Isle of Palms, South Carolina, home for the past 41 years. With her sparkling blue eyes, dark brown hair, dazzling smile and vibrant personality, she was always impeccably-dressed and an absolute joy to be around; anyone who met her, loved her and never forgot her. Anyone invited into her beautiful home was always treated like family. She prided herself on having a well-decorated home where you always had a drink in your hand and delicious, home-cooked meals were being served, the recipes she’d happily share, though she usually left out at least one ingredient…not on purpose, of course.

Janet worked in various careers during her adulthood, always exhibiting a strong work ethic, which she passed to her children, of whom she was exceedingly proud. Not one of those jobs were as important to her as her performance on the tennis court, and later in life, the golf course. In fact, when he was a child, her oldest son asked her, “Mom, is tennis your job?” She was excellent, always playing with her fiercely competitive spirit; off the court, she was fun, funny, quick-witted, well-liked and classy. She loved her family, from her husband, children and 10 grandchildren down to every last niece, nephew and cousin, and every friend was treated like family; she lived to travel, cook, socialize, read and shop, but mostly to shop.

SO many of us will miss her, especially Bill Rogers, her extremely devoted and loving husband of 51 years; her children and their spouses, Billy & Amy Rogers, Chris & Kristy Rogers and Bill & Jacque Rogers Foster; her ten loving grandchildren: Katie, Caroline, Colin, Evan, Cameron & Maddie Rogers and Reece, Sullivan, Jameson & Avery Foster; and her youngest sister and brother-in-law, Peter & Kathy Hinsch. Janet was predeceased by her parents, James & Dorothy Meagher, and her sister, June Meagher.

The family will receive friends at a casual outdoor memorial service on Hartness Living Grand Lawn (3500 Hwy 14, Greenville) at 7 pm on Saturday, August 1, immediately followed by a Janet-style celebration (which she would be extremely upset we held without her). In the interest of the grieving who may be immunocompromised, we kindly ask everyone to check your temperature before arriving, visit from a distance and wear a face covering throughout the memorial. If you prefer, or cannot attend, details of a live broadcast will be shared as soon as possible.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to express sympathy with a donation may send a check to the Rogers Family Foundation, C/O Teleco Inc. 430 Woodruff Road, Suite 300, Greenville, SC 29607.

The family would like to thank the incredibly amazing caretakers who lovingly cared for Janet. Please share your favorite memory of her. We want to hear all the stories. God bless Janet.
