On Friday, December 16, 2022, Janet Kay Johnson, a beloved mother, and grandmother, passed away after her lengthy battle with cancer. She was eighty-four. Born to June and George Crowell July 24, 1938, in Carbondale, IL. After moving often during childhood, Janet returned to Mar Vista, CA in the mid-1950’s and built her life in the Los Angeles area. She settled in Manhattan Beach to raise her young family as a dedicated wife and mother. After a career at Xerox in El Segundo Jan joined the education sector with the Manhattan Beach Unified School District. Her love of children, books, and natural curiosity made her a beloved fixture at both Pennekamp and Robinson Elementary schools.
After her retirement Jan moved to the Orange County area to be closer to her family. She eventually moved to Riverside, CA and was an active member of Saddleback Church-Eastvale. She brought her love of learning to the church and was active in many study and support groups. As her health began to decline, Jan moved to South Carolina to be closer to her son. She was preceded in death by her son Christopher W. Johnson. She is survived by her son, Randy Johnson and his wife Julie (SC) brother Eddie Ray Crowell (CA), and her cherished grandchildren; Ashley and Amy of Meridian, ID and Chris and Courtney of Greenville, SC.
A celebration of Jan’s life is being planned for early 2023 in the Riverside area.
