After 91 years filled with blessings, James Henry Watson died on the 7th day of May 2024. He was the son of the late James Henry Watson and Harriett Stuckey Watson. Although born in Columbia, Jim considered Bishopville as his hometown. He graduated from both the University of South Carolina and its Law School with Honors. In 1956 he moved to Greenville and joined the law firm of Leatherwood, Walker, Todd, and Mann, now Fox Rothschild. In 1981 he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. He retired from the firm and the practice of Law on December 31, 1997.
Jim’s sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Ann Reames Watson died August 24, 2009. He is survived by his second wife, Beverly Crouch Dismukes Watson, whom he loved dearly and to whom he was devoted, and by his loving family: Daughter Elizabeth “Betsy” Watson Marchant and her husband Craig, son James “Jim” Henry Watson III and his wife Tammy, son John Ashby Watson and his wife Rhonda; five grandchildren: Lucas Craig Marchant and his wife Jessica, Elizabeth “Liza” Marchant Barron and her husband Marshall, William “Will” Henry Watson and his wife Shannon, Ryan Ashby Watson and his wife Callie, and Carter Ann Watson; five great-grandchildren: Marshall Davis Barron, Katherine “Kate” Reames Marchant, Elizabeth “Libby” Chappell Barron, Caroline Stoots Marchant, and John Henry Watson; one sister, Margaret Saye Watson, one brother, David Stuckey Watson and his wife Jane and their two sons, David Stuckey Watson and wife Kim, and Charles Heath Watson and wife Ashley; grandnephews Heath and Hampton Watson and grandniece Sophie Watson.
A private commitment will be followed by a memorial service at Fourth Presbyterian Church on the 15th day of May at one o’clock. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.
