The son of the late Oscar Franklin Shipley and Connie Mae Mezzic. James was a beacon of joy and resilience in his family. His father, Oscar, predeceased him, but his mother, Connie, continues to live a life filled with the strength and spirit that she imparted to her son. James was the domestic partner of Georgette Wilson for over two decades, and he had a beloved daughter, Vicky Shipley. He was the cherished brother of Connie Rumage (Paul), Starr Martin (Matthew), Hope Adams and brother Billy Joiner who passed away in 2016. James enjoyed his family & his legacy continues through his nephews, nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who will always remember him for his kindness and his unique sense of humor.
James was a hardworking individual who valued education and personal growth. Although he earned his GED in life, he was a lifelong learner with a particular passion for history. His interest in the past was not limited to textbooks, as he loved to watch western movies & documentaries, immersing himself in the stories of a time gone by.
He was a dedicated employee at HWH Corporation, where he served as an injection mold operator in the plastics industry. His colleagues remember him as a reliable and diligent worker, always ready to lend a helping hand and brighten the day with his infectious laugh.
James had a deep appreciation for culture, particularly that of Louisiana. He was an avid fan of Mud Bugs and Cajun food, often delighting his family and friends bringing ice chests of Louisiana’s finest food to share at his home. James had a deep love for culture in Louisiana that extended beyond the kitchen, as he enjoyed learning about different traditions and histories. His curiosity and open-mindedness made him a favorite conversationalist.
