Mr. James Franklin Myers

January 17, 1953 — February 17, 2019

James "Jim" Franklin Myers, 66, passed away at home on February 17th with his loving wife of 44 years, Marion, at his side and with some especially dear friends surrounding him with love.

Jim was born in Warwick, Virginia and grew up in Tompkins Township, Michigan - graduating from Northwest High School.

Jim followed in his father's footsteps and entered the military in 1972, serving four years as a special communications radioman in the US Navy, stationed at Edzell, Scotland. Marion was swept off her feet by this blond, blue-eyed, cowboy boot wearing charmer and they were married in Montrose, Scotland in 1974.

After his discharge from the Navy, Jim and Marion settled in Jackson, MI where he pursued an Associates Degree in Engineering while working weekend nights at the local NBC affiliate, WILX. A favorite shared memory were the Saturday nights Marion would join Jim at the TV Station after the 11:00pm news and they'd watch Saturday Night Live together (back when it was really good - and there was no such thing as 24-hour TV).

The cold weather was left behind when work opportunities took Jim first to Augusta, GA and finally as part of the engineering team at WYFF, Greenville, SC. JIm was one of the truly fortunate - he loved the work he did from the beginning to the end of his almost 40 year career but WYFF was always "home" in his heart. His enthusiasm never waned - even when sharing with Marion on numerous occasions just how much sand he got out of the news cameras when they came back from hurricane watch duty at Myrtle Beach (purposely ignoring the fact that she was not exactly that impressed).

JIm loved gardening, reading and spending time on his computer but, most of all, he loved to travel and go on adventures. Europe was a favorite destination but when the Hawaiian shirts came out then he & Marion would be off cruising the Carribean, heading to Key West or Las Vegas. Highlight was 25th wedding anniversary vow renewal - ceremony performed by the post fried peanut butter & banana sandwich Elvis impersonator at The Graceland Wedding Chapel.

Jim smiled with his mouth, his eyes and his heart and there was joy and laughter to the end. He wasn't defined by his illness but rather by his determination to live the life he had been given to the fullest.

In addition to Marion, JIm is survived by his father, Charles Myers of Rives Junction, MI and his sister Joanne (Jim) McCabe of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded by his mother, Janet, and younger brother, Paul. Spread across the world are several nephews and nieces and their families. Special thanks to our most dear friends, Barry, Dianne and Jaynie for their love and care - and also to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cancer Institute and Homestead Hospice.

Jim has been cremated. According to his wishes, and to honor his father, his ashes will be interred in the family plot in Michigan at a future date.
