James Donald Murphy (Don), passed away peacefully at the age 62 on the 8th of August, 2024, in Easley, SC. Born on December 5, 1961, in Greenville, SC, to the late Willie and Rose Murphy. Predeceased by his brother Rick Murphy and sisters Beverly Murphy and Jackie Clark.
Don graduated from Carolina High School in 1980. He was president of the senior class. He was a star player for the Carolina Trojans in basketball, baseball, and football. Don was an active member of New Life Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. He was an avid supporter of the Clemson Tigers and Atlanta Braves. He loved the beach and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie. He was most proud of his two children; son, James Murphy (Lynn), and daughter, Brandee Dow (Jamie). He is also survived by his stepchildren, Jarrod, Steven, and Caroline. Don enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, Kris (Sarah), Cole, Kaleb, Skyler, Camryn, Jaida, Emma, Tori, and Adrianna, and his great-grandsons, Kristopher (KJ), Jackson, and Gatlin. Don also leaves behind his beloved sister, Debra Jameson. His precious fur babies Cookie, Dabo, and Jolene will miss him greatly.
He adored his children and grandchildren, never missing a sporting event and celebrating their achievements with pride. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Don will remember him as the life of the party, always ready with a joke and a smile that could light up any room. His passion for life was contagious and inspired those around him to cherish life’s simple joys.
Don's life was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and kinship. His absence will be felt deeply, but the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles for years to come.
As we bid farewell to James Donald Murphy, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a heart that loved without bounds, and a spirit that will continue to inspire. In his memory, we embrace the values he held dear: family, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. Don's story is not one of sorrow but of a journey filled with joy, friendship, and a legacy of love that will endure.

A memorial to celebrate Don’s life will be held at New Life Baptist Church in Greenville, SC at 6pm on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 6pm prior to the service. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ronnie Powell. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to New Life Baptist Church.
