James Marvin King Age 73
James (Jim) Marvin King passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Charles George Veterans Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.
Jim was born on August 13, 1944 to Homer Lee King and Bessie Alene Timms King in Greenville, SC.
Jim attended public schools in Greenville, South Carolina.
Jim enlisted in The United States Marine Corp on August 15, 1961 and completed his Basic Training at Parris Island, South Carolina. He was honorably discharged on July 28, 1965. He served in Puerto Rico, Cuba and Vietnam.
Jim spent his early career years in Sales but later developed an interest in photography. He was involved in golf photography at Hilton Head National in Hilton Head, SC and The World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla. He retired to his beloved mountains in Marietta, South Carolina in 2009.
Jim’s passions included watching The Clemson Tigers, flying airplanes, sailing and golfing with friends and family. In addition he enjoyed woodworking and built everything from a beautiful row boat to custom furniture and chopping blocks that are cherished by those who received them as gifts.
Jim is survived by the extended King family, many friends and his ever loyal and devoted Maine Coon cat, Admiral Halsey.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 30th at 11A.M.at Gap Creek Baptist Church where Jim was a member. The address is 388 Gap Creek Rd, Marietta SC. 29661. Pastor Harry C. Levell to officiate.
Burial will be held at a later date with full Military honors.
