James Reed Harrison, known affectionately as Jimmy to his friends and family, embarked on his final adventure on April 20, 2024. Born on August 11, 1954, in the town of Greenville, SC, Jimmy lived a life that was as full and robust as the forests he loved to explore.
Jimmy was a man with stories as legendary as his fishing exploits. He wasn't just a fisherman; he was the grandchildren's favorite playmate, leading them on expeditions through the woods with the excitement of a kid on the first day of summer vacation.
Before he hung up his boots and settled into the role of the world's coolest grandpa, Jimmy was a logger, a profession that suited his rugged, outdoorsy nature. Prior to that, he was the tow truck driver.
Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, embodied by his daughter Shelly Harrison. His grandchildren, Jameson "Bam-Bam" Crowder II, Chadley "O'Possum" Huffman, and Faylee "Angel-Baby" Huffman, will carry on his spirit of adventure and his knack for finding joy in the simplest of things.
He was the cherished brother to Charlotte Nix (Larry), Sadie Rogers (Johnny), Ann Clark (Terry), Martha Arnold, and Luther Slatton. Each sibling shared a unique bond with Jimmy, from childhood shenanigans to adult confidences. Jimmy now joins his beloved grandson Jacob "Bear" Crowder, brothers Donald and Steve Harrison, sister Kay Strother Rogers, and daughter Kelley Huffman in the great beyond, where the fish are always biting, and the tales are even taller.
Jimmy's life was a testament to the things he valued most: family, friendship, and the great outdoors. His infectious laughter could light up a room, and his sense of adventure was the spark that ignited countless family outings.
In his leisure time, Jimmy could be found with a fishing rod in one hand and a grandchild in the other, teaching them the fine art of patience and the thrill of the catch. He instilled in them a love for nature, a respect for the environment, and the importance of a well-timed joke.
Jimmy's life was a journey filled with laughter, love, and a touch of mischief. He approached every day with a sense of humor that was as natural to him as breathing. His legacy is not just in the stories he told but in the lives he touched with his warmth and generosity.
Jimmy lives on in the echoes of laughter in the woods, the ripples on the lake, and the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Jimmy, you may have cast your final line, but the memories you've reeled in will keep us smiling for a lifetime.
A visitation will be held on May 11, 2024 at the Cremation Society of South Carolina - Westville Funerals from 12-2 PM.
