James "Jim" B. Snoddy

d. November 27, 2018

James “Jim” Burdette Snoddy, 75, of Greenville, entered the presence of his Savior on November 27, 2018 after an illness. He is survived by his wife, Joy (Alta Joy Baker), his daughters: Martha Cornelius and her husband Tony of Dominica, Tricia Bonnema of Greenville, and Nancy Anderson and her husband Jeff of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren along with four of their spouses: Jamie Fleury and her husband Taylor; TJ Cornelius and his wife Anna; Stephanie, Kimberly, Emily, David, Daniel, and Eric Cornelius; Tessa and Shawna Bonnema; Brandon Anderson and his wife Caroline; Jason Anderson and his wife Luba; and Ashley, Alyssa, and Zeb Anderson; as well as two great-grandchildren: Nathan and Ethan Fleury; and many other extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy Lee Snoddy, his parents, Toy Patrick Snoddy and Mary Lou Burdette Snoddy, and his sisters, Pat Snoddy and Betty Smith along with her husband Dick Smith.

Jim was a native of Greenville and grew up in the Dunean area. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1964 and married his first wife, Peggy, after graduation. He spent two years in the United States Army serving in Germany and then returned to Greenville to live.

Jim loved God and served Him with all of his heart and was a faithful member of Hampton Park Baptist Church, served in Men for Missions through his church, and was a long-time board member of the Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center. Family was also a huge part of his life, and he was always ready to talk about those who were dear to his heart, especially his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He received great joy out of building memories with his family over the years as was evidenced in the many stories he enjoyed sharing. God also gave him a number of friends close enough that they should have been family. He loved and served his country as a member of the United States Army, and he also enjoyed his profession and the people with whom he worked at Jennings Cook and Company, CPAs.
After the death of Joy’s husband, Charles Timothy Baker (Tim) on November 29, 2006, she returned from Germany to the States in 2010. The Lord led her to relocate to Greenville in 2011. After the death of Jim’s wife, Peggy, in 2011, Jim met Joy (Alta Joy Baker) at Hampton Park Baptist Church. They married on September 29, 2012.
Joy’s family admired Jim for his gentle spirit and godly character, not to mention his sharp wit. Jim is survived by Joy’s daughter, Jodi Müjde Baker Olney (Scot), her daughter, Chloe Joelle Joyner, and Joy’s son, Joel Timothy Müfit Baker (Simone) with their sons, Joel Timothy Baker II and Jakob Henry Langston Baker. The grandchildren will miss their Grandpa Jim.
Jim saw his life here on Earth as a series of opportunities to invest in others for Eternity. Many people benefited from his exercising of his spiritual gift of giving, and he was especially touched by the needs of children and of those shrouded in spiritual darkness. As he was made aware of needs and God laid it on his heart to give, Jim often quietly provided resources necessary for the care of others and to be used to bring the Light of the Gospel to those who needed to hear of God.
In light of the heart that Jim had for spreading the Gospel, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be designated either for the ministry of Tony and Martha Cornelius in Dominica and be sent to Hampton Park Baptist Church, 875 State Park Road, Greenville, SC, 29609 or be sent to International Bible Conference, P.O. Box 25984, Colorado Springs, CO, 80936, for the training of national pastors in Africa and Asia.
