James Verlin Hall

James Verlin Hall, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away on June 22, 2024, at the age of 81 in Piedmont, SC. Born on July 13, 1942, in Hayesville, NC, James led a life marked by a steadfast dedication to his family, his work, and the pursuit of knowledge.

James is survived by his loving wife, Patricia B. Hall, and their children: Stephanie Hall; Jamie Hall Stanley (Rickey); Woody N. Hall; James Alexander Hall (Kasi); and Michael A. Hall (Cameron). He also leaves behind his brothers, John and Jerry Hall, and his cherished grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and love. James is predeceased by his parents and sisters whose memories he held close to his heart.

James earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, which paved the way for a distinguished career. He spent the majority of his professional life as a Lead Engineer for 3M's film division and also made significant contributions as a Production Engineer. His analytical nature and intelligence were evident in the innovative solutions he brought to complex engineering challenges. Colleagues respected him for his wisdom and mentorship, and many considered James not just a coworker but a true friend.

Outside of his professional life, James had a passion for golf, which he played with the same precision and focus that he applied to his work. He was also an avid reader, delving into books that spanned a wide range of genres and subjects, further showcasing his ever-curious mind. Additionally, he found solace and joy in target shooting, a hobby that allowed him to practice patience and accuracy, virtues he valued highly.

Those who knew James would describe him as intelligent, analytical, and wise. His guidance was often sought, and his advice was always delivered with thoughtful consideration. James was a beacon of knowledge to those who had the pleasure of engaging in deep conversations with him.
