James Donald Cox, known affectionately as Don to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, in his hometown of Greenville, SC, where he was also born on January 17, 1947. A man of loving kindness and generosity, Don's presence was a source of joy and comfort to all who knew him.
Don was the cherished son of the late Alma Sargent Cox and Leonard Cox. He grew up alongside his devoted sister, Linda Cox Lollis, who is married to Don Lollis, and his caring brother, Steve Cox, who is married to Vicki. The bonds of family were deeply important to Don, and he carried the legacy of his parents and the camaraderie with his siblings throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Parker High School's Class of 1965, Don's early years were marked by academic achievement and the forging of lifelong friendships. After high school, he embarked on a fulfilling career with Crossmark Food Broker, where he was known for his diligent work ethic, his ability to connect with people, and his unwavering integrity.
Don's interests and hobbies were as rich and varied as his character. An avid coin collector, he delighted in the stories each piece told and the history it represented. His passion for collecting Indian artifacts, such as arrowheads, drills, and pottery, was more than a pastime; it was a testament to his respect for and fascination with the past. Bird watching and fishing were activities that not only brought him peace but also allowed him to revel in the beauty of nature.
Those who knew Don can attest to the warmth and light he brought into the world. His loving nature was evident in every interaction, his kindness touched the hearts of many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He lived a life that was full, not just in years, but in meaningful experiences and the love he shared.
James Donald Cox's legacy will be cherished and kept alive in the memories of his family and friends. As we bid farewell to a man of such admirable character, we celebrate the time we had with him and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Don will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
