James T. Batson

April 10, 1950 — April 17, 2024

Travelers Rest, SC

James T. Batson, a cherished soul known for his loving nature and gentle spirit, passed away at his home in Travelers Rest on April 17, 2024. Born on April 10, 1950, in Travelers Rest, James's life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and creativity.

James Thomas, affectionately called by those who knew him, was the beloved husband of Laura N. Batson, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since 1987. Together, they raised a family that included their children Alysa K. Gilbert (husband George), Paul W. Rainey (wife Liz), Eric R. Batson (wife Stephanie), Amanda M. Mason (husband Joey), and Josh Y. Batson (wife Christine). He was a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way

The son of the late Walter and Flossie Batson, James grew up surrounded by the love of his family and the community of Travelers Rest. After graduating from Travelers Rest High School in 1968, he answered the call of duty and served in the Navy from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1973.

Upon returning to civilian life, James began a dedicated career as a meat cutter, working at Bi-Lo and then Ingles. His professional journey continued at B & R Fabrication, from which he retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and craftsmanship.

James's talents extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He was a very talented artist and painter, and his creative soul found joy in music as well; he loved singing and playing guitar, sharing his passion with all who would listen. His musical talents were a gift to the congregation at Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member.

Those who knew James would describe him as a very quiet and easy-going man, whose presence brought a sense of calm and warmth to any room. His creative spirit was matched only by his loving heart, as he nurtured and supported his family and friends with unwavering gentleness.

James's life was a beautiful canvas, painted with the colors of love, service, and artistry. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, the family he adored, and the community he served. He leaves behind a world that is brighter for his presence and a family that will forever cherish his memory.

As we bid farewell to James T. Batson, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His journey on earth may have concluded, but the melodies he played, the images he created, and the love he shared will resonate for generations to come. James's story is one of a life filled with purpose, kindness, and beauty—a story that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
