Hulda H. McDonald, 84 years old, of Greenville, SC, passed away in the early morning of August 7, 2024. Hulda was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend to all that she knew. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and went on to pursue her education degree at Columbia College. While attending college, she met her loving husband, Smith C. McDonald Jr. (Mackie) They lived in a few different states in the early years of their marriage while she taught elementary school and he was with the Navy, but did finally return to Greenville, SC shortly after the birth of their oldest, Smith C. McDonald III (Trey). Hulda and Mackie also had twin girls a few years after their son was born, Jennifer Crittenden (Miller) and Libby Evans (Robert). Hulda taught elementary school over 30 years in the grades first, third and fifth. She had a passion for helping young minds grow and learn all that they could. She was still stopped by former students many years after retiring and always welcomed them with a warm embrace.
Hulda was a loyal member to her church, Northside United Methodist, of Greenville, SC. And raised all of her children to love Jesus and follow the Lord faithfully. They were blessed with 9 grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis (Stephen), Margaret Anne Cooley (Ray), Weeks Evans (Sahara), Anna Crittenden, Haynes Evans (Anna), Sims Crittenden, Rees Evans, Coleman Evans and Wiley Crittenden, and raised the eldest two granddaughters, adopting them at an early age.
Hulda loved her friends like family as well and was known to have weekly bridge games with a circle of ladies she had known since childhood. She regularly spent time hosting neighbors and friends and enjoyed being in the company of those she loved most. Hulda is survived by her daughters and grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as her sister Lynn Dupree and Niece and Nephew. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years and her son both in 2016.
Funeral services will be held August 18, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Northside United Methodist, Greenville, SC. Family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial donation to Northside United Methodist and/or Greenville Humane Society.
