Hoyt Grady Dottry, 90, passed away peacefully Monday June 26, 2017 at AnMed Health Medical Center, Anderson, SC.
He was born February 2, 1927 to the late Henry Grady and Mary Burrell Dottry. He was raised in Walhalla, SC where he met the love of his life Helen Rogers and they married July 4, 1952.
Survivors include his wife Helen of the home; son, Hoyt Rogers Dottry of Lyman, SC, 3 grandchildren, Jordan (Joe) Machen, of Anderson, Molly Patterson (Brandon) of Iva and Graden Patterson of Anderson. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Alliefair Rogers of Walhalla SC.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Patterson of Anderson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family preceded in death by brother Chester Dottry of Anderson and sisters Marion Deaton and Mildred Lecroy both of Walhalla.
He retired from Owens Corning and also Sosebee Mortuary and Crematory. He was a faithful member of the Homeland Park Church of God where he played bass in the church band. Grady also served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
A time of gathering will be held on Thursday, June 29 from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Homeland Park Church of God, 219 W. Roosevelt Drive Anderson SC 29626. A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will immediately follow with Revs. Vernon Soles and Doug Saylors officiating. The family is at the home.
Sosebee Mortuary and the Cremation Society of South Carolina are assisting the family.
