Howard "Hal" Wood, a cherished father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home on June 6, 2024. Born on April 1, 1956, in Greenville, SC, Hal was a man whose selfless nature, handy skills, and loving heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Hal was a graduate of his local high school. After graduation, Hal dedicated many years to warehouse work, where his reliability and strong work ethic were greatly valued. His colleagues remember him not just for his dedication to his work, but for his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed.
Outside of work, Hal was a man of many interests. He found solace in the tranquility of fishing, enjoying the simple pleasure of casting a line. Hal's love for the outdoors extended to his passion for collecting arrowheads and rocks. He was also an avid fan of westerns, finding joy and adventure in the tales of the old frontier.
Hal's creativity shone through in his skillful carving of walking sticks, each one a work of art and a testament to his patience and attention to detail. His hands were rarely still, as he also took great pride in working on his truck, a hobby that allowed him to tinker and problem-solve to his heart's content.
Family was the cornerstone of Hal's life. He is survived by his loving daughter, Bambi Lark and her husband Robert; his sisters, Judy Land and Wanda Mabe; his nephew, John McMurray; his nieces, April McMurray, Kim Land, and Kelly Hazel; and his cherished grandchildren, Zakk Bryant, Zoe Crowe, and Lillian Lark. Hal's memory will also be treasured by his cat, Boo-Boo, as well as a host of loving friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lavinia Wood, his father, Howard Wood, Sr., and other loved ones who had a special place in his heart.
As we bid farewell to Howard "Hal" Wood, we celebrate a life well-lived and the countless memories he leaves behind. Hal's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and the love he shared with those around him. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, just as the walking sticks he crafted will continue to support those who lean on them. Hal's journey on earth has ended, but his story will be told for generations to come, a tale of a man who lived with purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
