After a three year struggle with bile duct cancer, Melody Dion went home to be with the Lord at 10:35 on Monday night, March 8, 2021. Her husband, Jeff, her son Jeremy, and her brother Neal were able to be with her in those closing moments. Shortly after praying together for her they could see a change in her breathing and then in a moment she was with the Lord. God was gracious to let the moment come at a time when she could be surrounded by loving family.
Hope Melody Dion was born on May 10, 1960 in Washington, D.C. to Sterline Jane (Ryder) and Walton Webber Cushman, and had two older brothers, Robert and Neal, along with a half brother William. Even as a young child she was sensitive to the Lord’s working in her life and as a teenager she confessed her sins to the Lord and put her faith in Jesus Christ to wash away her sin and guilt. After completing high school, she earned a bachelors degree in Sacred Music with a piano proficiency from Bob Jones University (Greenville, SC). On April 27, 1985 she married Jeffrey Lee Dion in Roseville, MI. Shortly after being married they moved to the Greenville, SC area and have resided there ever since. Melody was a faithful, loving wife to Jeff for the entire 35 years of their marriage and was deeply committed to raising each of her five children (April, Jeremy, Nathan, Matthew, and Erica) for the Lord, providing them with a wonderful education through homeschooling. Melody was highly connected in her local church, Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where her involvement was an overflow and visible display of her love for Jesus Christ. For the past 28 years she worked sacrificially to manage the bookkeeping for the family business. In March of 2018 she was diagnosed with bile duct cancer, for which she underwent an initial surgery and then several series of further treatments. Although she suffered much physically, especially during her last three years, she rarely complained but was most often sharing with others the Lord’s goodness and grace working in her life. Her favorite verses were from Psalm 73:25-26: “Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
