Holly Angela Henson, 51, died April 25, 2023, at Hospice House in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She had been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma two years prior, and under the guidance of Dr. Kim Yee was to be considered by the National Institute of Health for medical trials in early May.
Born in Shelby, North Carolina, to Rebekah Ann Patterson, now of Spartanburg, and Edsel Wayne Henson, now of Vidalia, Georgia, Holly was a graduate of Crest High School in Shelby and She studied communications at Appalachian State University and Gardner-Webb College.
She was employed by DHL International out of Miami.
Holly loved animals, good books, clever word play and the New Wave music of her youth. She loved deeply, gave generously, and despite being a reticent figure on first meeting, had strong, well-formed opinions. One of her strongest being that her maternal grandmother was a saint and that sainthood ran in the family, but it skipped a generation.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert and Ethel Patterson and Edsel and Virginia Henson, all of Shelby. Surviving, in addition to her mother, with whom she lived the last two years, and father, are aunts, uncles and cousins, and special friend Russell Taylor of Byron, Georgia.
South Carolina Cremation Society assisted the family. A memorial may be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to an animal rescue or sanctuary of your choice.
