Herbert (Herb) E. Miller, 90, passed away December 29, 2022 after a short illness. Born in New York City February 3, 1932, he was the son of the late Emma Weber Miller and Elwood Miller. Herb graduated from Montgomery, NY High School at 17 years of age and joined the US Airforce and served in Okinawa, Japan in the Radar Division. After serving in the Airforce for 3 years Herb applied at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and was inducted. Later Herb attended Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation from Clarkson, Herb joined the General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY as a part of a management training program. In 1972 he was transferred to Greenville, SC to work in the GE Gas Turbine plant. After over 20 years at GE, Herb and a partner pooled together their money, mortgaged their homes, and drove old cars so they could purchase several companies that manufactured precision equipment to be used on golf courses as well as manufacturing equipment for the farming sector such as John Deere and Ford. These companies were located in Wisconsin (Kiel and New Holstein), Minnesota (Lester Prairie), and Oklahoma (Norman). They worked hard and the business prospered, and they never laid off any employees. Herb loved golf. He was a member and had a winter home at PGA National Golf club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In 2013 when he moved to Greenville, he joined Holly Tree Country Club as an active member. Herb and Lisa loved traveling the world twice a year, enjoying the sites, history, people, and food of all countries. Herb liked and enjoyed all people; he never met a stranger. He loved doing "projects" and completed them "yesterday"! Herb is survived by his wife Lisa, two sons Eric and Kurt (Jolyn) and two daughters Tracey Colpetzer and Lori McCrary, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition, there are two stepsons John Sturr and Matthew Sturr (Jackie) and stepdaughter Vanessa Ollar (Phillip) and three step-granddaughters. Herb was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley Miller, his eldest son Chuck, as well as his sister Elaine Umstetter. Celebration of Life for Herb E. Miller will be held at Holly Tree Country Club, 500 Golf Club Dr, Simpsonville, SC 29681 from 11:30am until 1:00pm on Friday, January 6, 2023
