Herbert B Mercer

Herbert B. Mercer, 94, of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021. Born August 15, 1926, in Fairmont, WV, he was the son of the late Arza Fountain and Ella Schooley Mercer. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jean Lois Mercer, a son, John Patrick Mercer, and a brother, William Burtis Mercer.
A graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College, he was a good husband, father and grandfather, a retired letter carrier of the U.S. Postal Service where he also served as the secretary of their local Federal Credit Union. He was an active member of the church as a choir member and assistant Sunday school teacher, and tended his large garden for years.
Herbert is survived by sons Steven (Mendy) Mercer of Montgomery Village, MD, Scott (Toby) Mercer of Inman, SC, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family appreciates Lakewood Senior Living for their love and care of Mr. Mercer these past few years.
A graveside service with family will be held at a later date at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, WV, and a family dinner/celebration of his life will be held locally.
