Hazel Irene Ross, affectionately known as Hazie, was born on April 2, 1950, in Greenville, South Carolina. She was a woman of remarkable kindness and unwavering compassion, always seeking the good in everyone she encountered. Hazie had a heart of gold and possessed a genuine desire to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her generous spirit and gentle nature made her stand out among others.
Socializing with friends brought immense joy to Hazie's life. She found solace in their company, cherishing each moment spent together. Her warm presence radiated love and positivity, making her the kindest person anyone could ever meet.

On November 26, 2023, Hazel Irene Ross passed away peacefully in Greenville, South Carolina—her birthplace and final resting place—with her loved ones by her side. Though saddened by the loss of such an extraordinary individual, we find solace in knowing that Hazie's spirit lives on through cherished memories and the impact she made on countless lives.
Hazie will be deeply missed by her son Samuel "Sammy" Blease Smith and his wife Coleen— and a daughter Melissa who passed at birth. Hazie's legacy is further carried by her sister Evelyn Holsenback, sister Carol Lynn Martinez, and her husband Carlos.
In addition to her immediate family, Hazie leaves behind nieces Teri Wilson and April Ramos, nephews Michael Holsenback and Gregory Martinez, as well as grandsons Christopher Jacob Blease Smith, Steven Benefield, and Brandon Benefield. Her loving presence will also be missed by great-niece Jean Marie Wilson, great-nephew Logan Christopher Wilson, several other great-nieces, and a special friend Roland and numerous friends whose lives have been touched by her remarkable spirit.
A viewing in memory of Hazel Irene Ross will take place on November 29, 2023, at Cremation Society of SC-Westville Funerals located at 6010 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29611. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, with Interment to follow at Graceland West Cemetery.
