Harriet Michael Pallotto, a beacon of light and love, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, in Anderson, South Carolina. Born on March 14, 1932, in Wilmington, Delaware, Harriet's life was a testament to her spirited nature, intelligence, and courage. She was a cherished daughter, mother, wife, and friend who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.
Harriet, affectionately known by her friends and family, was the beloved daughter of the late Mary (Mickey) Fox and Max Chavin. She was predeceased by her first husband, Abraham Meltzer, a musician who instilled in her a lifelong love for jazz, and her second husband, Frank Pallotto, with whom she shared many joyous years. Harriet's legacy is carried on by her devoted daughter, Carol Meltzer Beckenhauer, and she is predeceased by her loving daughter, Gail Meltzer who cared for her for her entire life.
A woman of many passions, Harriet's early years were filled with the arts, as she loved to sketch people and dance with a grace that captivated all who watched her. Her love for music and dance was paralleled only by her dedication to her career in nursing, a field in which she excelled for an impressive 70 years. Harriet's commitment to caring for others led her to become a nursing graduate, and she held various esteemed positions, including Director of a senior living facility and Head nurse at a dialysis center.
Throughout her career, Harriet worked at numerous hospitals and physicians' offices, where her expertise and compassion were greatly valued. Her last professional role was at the Sarasota Friendship Center in Florida, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of seniors. Even after her retirement, Harriet's desire to serve her community never waned, as evidenced by her being awarded Volunteer of the Year at the age of 81.
Harriet's love for Sarasota, Florida, was evident in the many years she lived and thrived in the area. It was there that she found a community that shared her interests, from her love of reading to her enjoyment of the local culture. Harriet's intelligence shone through in her avid reading, and her courageous spirit was evident in every challenge she faced and overcame.
