Harlon Harris, a venerable spirit graced by loving warmth and passion, left our world on October 4, 2024, in Lyman, SC. Born on January 17, 1941, in Chipley, FL, Harlon's life journey was a testament to dedication and spirited zest that touched many.
Harlon's military and civilian careers were marked by exceptional commitment; as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, his patriotism was unwavering, earning him respect among his peers. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Later, he traded his military boots for the wheels of a truck, driving for Perdue Farms. His impeccable record boasted one million accident-free miles—a testament to his diligence and expertise.
Hunting and fishing were the pastimes where Harlon found serenity. In the quiet of nature, he reflected the same peace he fostered at home. His endearing nature was further exemplified through his loving relationships with his family. He is survived by his children Jamie and Chad Murphy (daughter and son-in-law), Joseph Satterfield (son), Sandra Odom (stepdaughter), Damien Shellhouse Harris (adopted son), and his stepsons, Keith and Ronnie Higginbotham and their families. Harlon's brothers, Dwain and Myrle, Waylon and Minerva, and Joseph and Sandra (Sandy), along with their families, will sorely miss his guiding light.
Harlon was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Lorraine Harris, his third wife, Sara Brown Harris, and his brother Robert. His legacy will continue through his grandsons, Jeremiah McAbee and Wesley Murphy and his seven step-grandchildren, who, alongside the family, will cherish memories of his lively banter and compassionate embrace.
Harlon Harris's journey on earth was that of a life anchored in passionate love, a generous spirit, and the embodiment of strength. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all he encountered.
