Gladys B. Patterson

August 15, 1925 — May 28, 2015

Gladys Ballenger Patterson was born August 15, 1925 in Johnson City, TN and lived since childhood as a resident of Greenville, SC.  Gladys finally came to rest Thursday, May 28th at St. Francis Hospital.

Gladys was the daughter of the late James William Ballenger and Bertha King Ballenger.  She was predeceased by her loving and caring husband, James Edwin Patterson, Sr., as well as three sisters – June Babb, Nell Nalley, Doris Hall, and a brother – James Kyle Ballenger.

She was continually surrounded and cared for by her daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Patterson and her son, James “Eddie” Patterson, Jr., both of the home.

She left two grandchildren – James (Jessica) Patterson of Las Cruces, NM and Marcie (Bobby) Kitchens of Greenville, SC and many caring and loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gladys has loved and served Jehovah God since the age of 17 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  From the bible, she has taught others of God’s personal name, Jehovah (Psalms 83:18) and his desire to have all people come to know him by that name.  She has shared the knowledge of God’s purpose for the Earth to be inhabited forever by meek, righteous ones in perfect health in the paradise he created without sickness, pain, sorrow or death (Rev 21:4).  This paradise would come through God’s government as prayed for in the Lord’s prayer (Matt 6:9-13).  Since the earth is mankind’s home, we were taken from the dust and return to the dust at death regardless of the life we led – happy, sad, or troubled.  Life is still precious and a gift from Jehovah God who loves us and always cares for us.

So Gladys is now asleep waiting for the resurrection when God’s purpose for the earth to be a paradise will be fulfilled as he stated at Isa 65:17-25, where no resident will say I am sick and the last enemy “Death” will be gone forever (Isa 25:8).

Graveside services will be held at Graceland East, 2206 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville SC on Sunday, May 31st at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Southwest Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the World Wide Work at 24 Lynn Street, Greenville, SC 29605.  The family will receive friends following the graveside service and afterwards at their respective homes.
