Gerri was born May 7, 1925 in DuBois, PA to Phyllis and Jesse Busch and lived in Pennsylvania and Buffalo, NY. She later retired with her husband Joseph Celani to Englewood, Fla and then to Greenville, SC.
Gerri was classically trained for many years in opera and performed at Decarlo Opera in NYC and sang for the Boys Town of Italy, and Womens Aglow organizations in western New York. Gerri was also a gifted artist whom loved to paint, draw and sew. She received high school awards for her creative hand sewn gowns and outfits. Gerri’s love for her family was no secret, she enjoyed cooking full course dinners nightly, and on holidays. Her Christmas ham was second to none according to her granddaughter Sarah.
She was a giving woman, there was nothing she wouldn’t do too provide for her family. She worked for clerical and logistic companies, she loved being active and worked as a greeter at Sams Club until she was 83 years old. Some of her favorite activities in her later years were gardening, shopping and going out to eat.
She is survived by her daughter Kim Karaszewski (Bruce) of Duncan, SC, son David Rossi (Virginia) of Wilson, NY and preceded in death by her daughter Deborah R. Rossi and her husband Joseph A Celani and all her siblings.
She is survived by 5 grandchildren- Deborah A Rossi of Niagara Falls, NY, David Rossi Jr of Machias, NY, Sarah Karaszewski and Joel Karaszewski of Duncan, SC, and Katie Rossi of Wilson, NY. Eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Gerri was so full of life and loved living and she will be sorely missed by her family and friends, but it gives us comfort to know she is singing with our heavenly father in heaven. The memorial service will be held Sunday July 30th at 2 pm at the address of 402 Benjamin Reid Court Duncan, SC 29334.
