Gerald Lee Rammel (Gerry), beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2023, at the age of 90 in Greenville, SC. He was born on March 6, 1933, in Burkettsville, OH, to the late Albert and Hilda (Pohl) Rammel. He was predeceased by sisters Joyce Schirack and Janet VanderHorst and brother Kenneth Rammel.
Gerry leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce, who stood by his side throughout their incredible journey together. His children include his daughters: Julie McIntosh (David), Jeanne Vermillion, Denise Varner (Robert), Susan Marie, Jeannette Cohen, and his son Kenneth Hill (Stephanie). He was a caring grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and to seven great-grandchildren. His sisters, Judy Herdman and Phyllis Crabill (Larry), and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his loss.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army as an Assistant Chaplain during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956. He demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to his duty, leaving an indelible mark on those he served alongside.
Throughout his professional life, Gerry excelled as a successful salesman and project engineer/manager for several large materials-handling manufacturers throughout the United States. His passion and expertise led him to establish Ergo Corporation, a Greenville-based materials-handling equipment firm. His entrepreneurial spirit and visionary leadership played a pivotal role in the company's success.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gerry was a man of deep faith and integrity. He held a steadfast commitment to his beliefs, and his compassionate nature touched the lives of many. His kindness and generosity were evident in his interactions with others, and he offered support and guidance whenever it was needed.
In his free time, Gerry enjoyed spending quality moments with his family. He cherished family gatherings, where he delighted in the laughter and joy shared among loved ones. His warm smile and genuine interest in others made him a treasured presence at these gatherings, creating lasting memories for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Gerry's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to live on through the hearts and memories of all those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a remarkable friend.
