George Merrell Scott Jr. passed away peacefully at his home January 14, 2025, after a battle with cancer. He was born in Bessemer Alabama to Annie Mae and George Merrill Scott Sr. on October 1,1941 and was raised in the greater Birmingham area. George attended Auburn University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Electrical Engineering. During his long professional career, he was associated with several companies including Vitro Services, NASA, where he worked on the Saturn 5 project, Lockwood Greene, and Lockheed Martin. His professional career included extensive travel with long stints in Thailand and Saudi Arabia. He had many other interests including The Shag Club in Greenville and Ocean Drive, bowling, golf, and for many years he and his wife bred and raised miniature poodles. After retiring, George volunteered for many years at the Cancer Center of Greenville, and also worked part time at GE in security. He was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church, a man of strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and a friend to everyone. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 60 years and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Ann Mannich.
