George James Bursenos, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of September 7th, 2024, in Greenville, South Carolina. George was born to Jane and James Bursenos in Washington D.C. on December 13th, 1938. George’s values of personal integrity, hard work, faith, family and community were shaped by his deeply loving and tight-knit Greek American family. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy and a tour abroad, George married Karen Floy Smith, and together they had five children, Angel, Jimmy, Stacey, Jennifer and Peter. George and Karen remained married for 58 years until Karen passed away in 2018. George worked his way from draftsman to engineer, and then into a management position for IBM where he served for 27 years before retiring to Greenville, South Carolina in 2005. George was a talented craftsman who loved to work with wood, play golf, and socialize. He was also deeply interested in music and philosophy and enjoyed entertaining friends and family through his generous nature. He had a way of making anyone he met, neighbor and stranger alike, smile and laugh at his delightful, often spicy sense of humor. George is survived by his children Angel Ganczak (Kevin Ganczak), James Bursenos (Jessica Bursenos), Anastasia Bursenos, and Jennifer Hockenberry (Chad Hockenberry); his grandchildren Riley, Kiran, Adam, Braiden, Caden, and Naia; his siblings Maria Marinakos, Stephanie Bursenos, and Christopher Bursenos; as well as many more cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his son, Peter George Bursenos and his brother, Peter James Bursenos (Lynn Bursenos).
