Gene Edward Tynes

Gene Edward Tynes, 89, of Cross Hill, SC, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, surrounded by his family at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Gene was born in Graves County, KY to the late Lucian Hart and Lillie Ann Hickerson Tynes. On January 22, 1952 he married the former Bettye Jean Adair of Mayfield, KY. Gene was a US Army veteran who served in active duty from 1953 - 1955, a member of the Reserves until 1961, and a retired Regional Sales Manager with Unisys Corporation. A 20 yr resident of Cross Hill and former 20+ yr resident of Edisto Beach, SC, Gene enjoyed working and was always involved with issues and community needs, loved traveling, being near the water and walking turtle patrol at sunrise.

Gene is survived by his wife Bettye Jean Tynes of 66 years, daughters Vivian Grant and Valerie Tynes of Atlanta, GA, little Bitsy, and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Earl Tynes of Edgefield, SC. Gene was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.

A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Soule Chapel United Methodist Church, Hwy 39, Cross Hill, SC, with Pastor Bill Quarles officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Interment will be privately held by the family at The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island.
