“A man’s heart deviseth his way, but the Lord directeth his path.” - Proverbs 16:9. Gene made it his daily obligation to desire and seek every step God laid before him. Gene was a man of prayer, committing his life to serving Christ. Gene was a man of devotion: to God, to his wife, to his family, and to all who had the opportunity to encounter him. Every life is worth investing in because all life is intricately designed by God. Ultimately, Gene was a man of accomplishment. He served in the Navy during Vietnam. He was an MBA and an engineer. Gene built power plants, houses, and churches. He started businesses and invested in the lives around him regularly. He served as a Gideon, a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, an evangelist, and served in the church sacrificially. His greatest accomplishment was reflecting the glory of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in every aspect of his life.
Since a private memorial service was held due to Covid-19 rules, Vicky would appreciate it if you would write a letter to her telling her where you met Gene and how he has influenced your life and/or your favorite memory of him. She wants to collect these letters to make a scrapbook for the grandchildren so they can know their grandfather better. Please mail letters to P.O. Box 672 Gray Court, SC 29645 or email Vicky at
