Gaylord Eugene "Gene" Parsons

April 27, 1928 — February 6, 2019

Gaylord Eugene “Gene” Parsons, 90, Greenwood SC died at home at 9:30 pm on Wednesday, February 06, 2019 with his family by his side.
A Memorial Mass will be held to celebrate his life at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood SC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont. The family is forever indebted for the help, guidance and invaluable support they received during Gene’s time of transition.
Gene was born April 27, 1928 in Atlanta, IL and was the son of Nicholas Thomas and Ada Gertrude (Salmon) Parsons. Gene is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marguerite “Tot” Totterer; his daughter Vickie Annette Pace (Walt) of Greenwood, SC; his granddaughter Christina Marie Crum (Christopher) of Elgin, IL; and grandson Cory Eugene Pace (Jessica) of Marquette Heights, IL., 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Gene worked for several years as a jeweler for Chadbands of Bloomington, IL and taught a gemology class at Bradley University of Peoria, IL. Gene was a veteran and served in the US Army in the 5th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War. He eventually went to work for State Farm Insurance Company whereupon he retired as Division Manager of Fire & Casualty for the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin after over 30 years of service. After retirement, Gene and Tot took an extensive trip around the country looking for that “perfect” spot to spend their golden years which eventually took them to Port Charlotte, FL where they enjoyed over 20 years of golfing, traveling, and relaxing in the sunshine state. Once their daughter and son-in-law retired, they packed their bags and moved to be close to them on Lake Greenwood in SC. The remainder of Gene’s days was spent enjoying the lake, watching reruns of Gunsmoke, and entertaining anyone that would listen to his jokes and storytelling abilities.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
