After his honorable service, Gary's focus turned to his family, the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Victoria Hawley, and a guiding light to his sons, Joshua S. Holcomb, Sammy Hewitt, and Jeff Hewitt. His wisdom and gentle nature were a source of comfort and inspiration to his step-daughter, Paula (James) Redding, and his beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Waldrop, Grace Hewitt, Sammy Hewitt, Paizlee Hewitt, Mayson Hewitt, Cole Ford, Hunter Waldrop, Carter Waldrop, and Kenlei Hewitt. Gary's legacy continued to flourish through his great-grandchildren, Josh Redding, Matt Redding, Sophia Redding, Landon Redding, and Abby Reeves, who will carry his lessons and love forward.

Gary's family circle extended to his loyal dog, Allie, who was a constant companion and source of joy. He was also a brother to Rune Holcomb Raymond and held the memory of his cousin, Rick Holcombe, close to his heart.
