Fred Earl West, Jr., known to all as Fred, took his final joyride to the big truck stop in the sky on July 28, 2023. Born on July 3, 1950, in Monticello, AR, Fred spent his life on the road, delivering packages and punchlines with equal enthusiasm. He passed away in Spartanburg, SC, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Fred was a man of many passions, but none so great as his love for trucking. He spent 30 years behind the wheel for FedEx Freight, and even in retirement, he never lost his love for the open road. He was a man who loved his family, his friends, and a good joke. He was always ready with a quick quip or a funny story, and his laughter was as infectious as his love for Mexican food.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Sharon West, his daughters, Kristy (Chuck) Relaford and Abigayle Thomas, and his sister, Joyce Ann (William) Vest. He was a proud grandfather to John Calvin Rawls, Kristen Rawls, and Hudson Word, and a doting great-grandfather to Calvin Rawls and Westin Walden. He is predeceased by his parents, Fred West Sr. and Lona Bostian.
Fred was a man who lived life in the fast lane, always ready for the next adventure. He loved rides to the mountains, watching westerns, cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers, and enjoying a cold beer at the end of the day. He was adventurous, friendly, and funny, a man who lived his life with a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
