Farris Elizabeth (Hendrix) Dwinell, 82, died January 31, 2022, with her sisters by her side.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 5, at Augusta Road United Methodist Church in Pelzer, SC.
On October 31, 1939, Farris was born in Conyers, Georgia, to Alfred and Nora Hendrix. Her father was a farmer, and her mother played the piano for their church. She was the seventh child and fourth girl in a loving family that eventually would have 12 children.
Farris and her siblings shared many beautiful adventures growing up on farms throughout Georgia. Her family moved to Arizona when she was young, and she spent most of her life living on the west coast. She attended Biola Bible College in La Mirada, CA, majoring in Christian Education. She worked as a bookkeeper for 44 years and was an active church volunteer throughout her life. She was the Children’s Director and sang in the choir at Crossroads Bible Church in San Jose, CA, the church secretary at Christian Life Center and Widows Group Leader in Bend, OR, and led the Pioneer Girls, Jr. High Group while living in Long Beach, CA.
Farris married Jim Dwinell in 1966 and loved him until he passed away in 2020. They were active members of the Augusta Road United Methodist Church ever since they moved to Piedmont, SC, in 2018.
Farris loved Dachshund dogs and raised many sweet puppies as if they were her own children throughout her entire life. She will forever be remembered for her sweet voice that her sister said: “sounded like a smile.” “It was a lovely voice with a quick laugh that highlighted her great sense of humor,” recalled Frieda.
Farris is survived by her brother, George Hendrix, and sisters, Barbara Moats, Freida King, Carol Tatman, Maxine Williams, Janice Gordon, and Phyllis Binns.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Augusta Road Methodist Church in appreciation for their love and ministry to Farris while she was ill.
