Esta Mae Swearingen, 64. Most affectionately known as Nana but also lovingly referred to as Mom, Tootsie, and best friend, Esta was unexpectedly taken home on January 25, 2018. Though we don’t know the purpose, God must have big plans for her. We will pray to eventually come to peace and thank Him for the short years we all had together.
She is survived by many who loved her including her daughter, Candra Linton Tyler and her husband, Michael Tyler plus the two brightest lights of her life, Adelyn Makayla Custer and little Finley Michael Tyler. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby Cadence Grace Tyler who is set to make her appearance in just two months. She was also honorary mom to Courtney Lynn Hughey and Tia Powell Hyland. She had many siblings, many of whom have passed on before her but several sisters remain including Jean Swearingen, Dianne Howard, and Nettie Wright. She also would have wanted her two late best friends, Janie Bouvier and Donna Hughey, mentioned.
Adelyn and Nana shared a bond that no one else will understand. She loved her “Loveybugs” deeply. They enjoyed taking trips together and often had slumber parties, just the two of them. She also spent many days helping to raise little Finley and was patiently trying to teach him the ABC’s while enjoying “choo-choos” (trains) together.
Esta opened her home, her arms, and her heart to family and friends in times of need and for fun. One of her most favorite times was gathering together to share joy and laughter around a meal. She had recently taken up painting and many people were privileged to be gifted some form of art work that she passionately spent hours making. Each piece thought out for the intended recipient. In her earlier years, she had two main careers including starting with BellSouth and making the transition to Verizon Wireless but had been retired for many years. She loved to travel and had visited many countries around the world and often took short trips regionally; usually with family and friends.
She had a love for animals and would always allow and care for whatever crazy breed of animal her daughter brought home except for the squirrels that took up residence in her attic. She loved birds and butterflies and enjoyed decorating with such. She enjoyed doing Bible studies in ladies group. One of her nick names was Nurse Esta as she always jumped in when someone was in need of home care; no matter what the duty entailed. She was there.
A remembrance gathering will be held Sunday, February 4th at 4 pm at Serendipity Café: 104 E Main Street, Easley, SC 29640.
