Ernest Emerson Meeker went home to be with the Lord and his dear wife on Sunday, August 20, 2017. Lillian preceded him in death on Mother’s Day this year. They had been happily married for 59 years. Ernie was born on November 14, 1930. He is survived by his three children and their spouses – Jane and Steve Brady, Tom and Paula Meeker, Amanda and Kirk Phillips. His pride and joy were his six grandchildren - Daniel Brady, Elizabeth (Julian) Balatbat, and David Brady; Brian (Jaymee) Meeker; Kaylee Phillips, Paige Phillips. He had one great granddaughter, Reagan Balatbat, who was the apple of his eye, and one great grandson due to arrive in December. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Black, and several nieces and nephews.
He and Lillian retired to Simpsonville in 1996 from Clarkston, Michigan. He retired from General Motors Truck and Coach in Pontiac, Michigan, after 39 years of service. He accepted Christ as his Savior in the early 1960’s. He loved serving and giving to God. He loved people and never met a stranger. Ernie had many dear friends in Michigan and South Carolina. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Simpsonville.
Ernie’s memorial service will be held, Saturday, August 26, at 11:00 am, at Bible Baptist Church, 233 Harrison Bridge Road, Simpsonville, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 until the start of the service. The burial service will follow at Westview Memorial Park in Laurens.
