Elsie M. Bromfield, 90, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on March 27, 2019 in Greenville, SC.
Elsie was born in Stamford, Connecticut, a first-generation American, the eldest daughter of Olaf and Eine Olsen.
She is survived by her younger sister, Eleanor Marie Scales, sons Chris Bromfield and Roy Bromfield (Kimberly), daughter Janet Driscoll (Daniel), seven grandchildren (Mark, Laura, Heather, Rachael, Jennifer, Sam and Miriam),five great grandchildren, a beloved sister-in law Bev as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son Russell Bromfield.
Elsie lost her soulmate, best friend and the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Bromfield in March 2018, and she looked forward to the day when they would be reunited in Heaven.
Elsie was a lifelong resident of Stamford and fell in love with Bob during their years together at Stamford High School. Elsie and Bob rarely spent time apart from one another during their 68-year marriage, and were active members of the Noroton Presbyterian Church and Woodway Country Club -both in Darien, CT.
Although trained as a business secretary, a 70 word-per-minute typist and a former secretary to the Principal at Dolan Jr. High in Stamford, most of Elsie’s life was consumed with raising her family. She was a Cub Scouts Den Mother, a Boy Scouts campsite chauffer of three Eagle Scouts and spent countless hours in the bleachers of Little League fields, ice-skating rinks and at modeling gigs with daughter Janet. Elsie sang in the Noroton Presbyterian choir for decades while also serving on numerous committees there and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years. Elsie had a knack for painting and her creativeness oozed into a craft business that she ran with her lifelong friend Bunny. She traveled much of the world with Bob, was fond of tennis, summer days at Cove Island and Woodway beach, reading, Yankees baseball, UCONN women’s basketball and devoting herself to her family and friends. Gentle, soft-spoken and caring, Elsie never spoke an unkind word of another person.
Elsie will be missed beyond measure, but her family feels comfort knowing that she felt at peace when faced with her imminent passing. Services in celebration of her life will be held at Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT on Saturday June 29th. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: Clubfoot CARES:
