Elmo “Mo” Lester Mann

April 22, 1926 — December 11, 2020

Elmo Lester Mann, known to his friends as “Mo,” gained his heavenly Wings on Friday, December 11th, 2020 after a brief illness.

Mo was predeceased by his parents, James Fred and Dorothy Farley Mann and his four siblings, Jack Mann, Ralph Mann, Vera Mann Looper and Montez Mann Corey. He was born on Thursday, April 22nd, 1926 in the Woodside Community of Greenville, SC. He graduated in the Class of 1943 from Parker High School and was head cheerleader. Upon graduation, Elmo served in the United States Army at the rank of Sergeant from September 1944 until July 1946 where he was primarily stationed in India. He was employed by Dan River Mills, Woodside Division for 36 years as the Accountants Payable Manager until retirement.

Elmo married Opal Allen Mann on Thursday, December 14th, 1950 until her death, on Tuesday, May 6th, 1986. He was blessed with two loves and married Jean Cox Mann on Sunday, February 14th, 1988 until her death, Monday, March 28th, 2005.

Elmo and Opal raised two children, Kim Mann Embler (Mical) and Ted Mann (Becky). His zest for life will live on through his five grandchildren, Elizabeth Embler Sullivan (Craig), Erin Embler Galloway, Christopher Mann, Ryan Mann and Reagan Mann Jordan (Hunter). The icing on his cake were his five great grandchildren, Marcus Wagner Mann, Flash Galloway, Macy Beck Jordan, Ezra Sullivan and Edwin Jordan.

Mo was a long time member of Berea Friendship United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class where he enjoyed cherished lifelong friendships.

His heart of service led him to volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He left a legacy of his love for music and songs with his family and shared his talent with many friends. Personalized cards, videos and verses were gifts from his heart. His antics entertained and created lifelong memories for those who loved him. As an avid Clemson Tiger fan, Mo always looked forward to their games. Other interests included working crossword puzzles, watching game shows and playing Cribbage on the internet with friends.

Military Honors will be followed by a Memorial Service and a Celebration of Life on Sunday December 20, 2020 at Berea Friendship United Methodist Church, 8001 White Horse Rd., Greenville, SC 29617 at 3:00pm.
