Elizabeth Brunson Wilson

March 25, 1947 — September 2, 2018

Elizabeth Brunson Wilson, 71, passed away September 2, 2018 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Betsy was born March 25, 1947 in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in Morganton, North Carolina as the daughter of the late E.M. and Harriette Brunson. She attended Queens College and was a cum laude graduate of Furman University, where she later received her Master of Arts in Education. Betsy was a faithful fan of the Paladins and enjoyed football and basketball games on the beautiful Furman campus. She was also an avid participant in the university’s OLLI program.
Betsy served as a Greenville County school teacher for 39 years. She was a devoted teacher to her students and loved her colleagues at Greenville Middle Academy. Outside of teaching, Betsy enjoyed a good book, a skillful hand of bridge with her bridge club, sweet treats, jigsaw puzzles, the theater and spending time with her grandson.
Betsy was a long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served in various roles including the Session. She was active in her community and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Gower Swimming, and Center Stage.
Perhaps her greatest commitment to the community was serving as the leader of the Pulmonary Hypertension Patient Support Group in the Upstate. She helped educate patients about treatment, life adjustments to pulmonary disease, and family support. Betsy attended the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s national conferences and was a featured speaker.
Her devoted husband of 40 years, Claude Wilson, preceded her in death. Survivors are her daughters, Kathryn Millican and her husband, Jim, of Raleigh, NC and Cameron Bryant and her husband, Jeff, of Richmond, VA; son, Thomas McDowell “Mac” Wilson of Richmond, VA; grandson, Angus Millican.
A memorial service will be held September 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, 801Roeder Road, Ste. 1000, Silver Spring, MD 20910 or to the Music Ministry Program of Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2310 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605.
