Edwin Allen Snape III, the loving husband of Palmira Silva Snape passed away Monday, April 22.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, son of Edwin Allen Snape Jr. and Erna Lang Snape, Ed graduated from Wm. Penn Charter School in Philadelphia and attended Ithaca College and graduated from the Smaller Company Management Program of the Harvard Business School. He served three years with the U. S. Army, where he was stationed at the Army Information School in New York and Armed Forces Radio in Tokyo. 

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Pam, his son Roger Scott (Kirsten Solberg) of Central, SC, and daughter, Christine Swaney (Brian) of Marietta, GA and three grandchildren, Patrick Allen Swaney, Caroline Ashley Swaney, and Josephine Langley Snape. His sister, Helene S. Shoemaker (Raymond) of Ambler, PA.

Ed came to Greenville to set up a branch of the family card clothing business, Benjamin Booth Company in 1961. As the product line evolved into textile electronics, printed circuit boards, and precious metal plating, he started Booth Electrosystems, Inc. and became its first president until his retirement in 1994.

He attended St. James Episcopal Church where he was a lector, lay reader, vestry member, sound team leader, and representative to the Communications Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina


Beginning in the 1961 -1962 season, Ed regularly recorded Greenville Symphony concerts and produced radio broadcasts which were aired on WFBC, WSPA, WMUU, and ETV Radio. Upon retirement in May 2011, the GSO recognized his 50 years of service.

His talents led him to conceive and originate Carolina Concerts, featuring music performers from S.C and N.C. In 1968 Ed founded Insight Productions and then Encore Recordings as a successor business.  In 1974, with Bob Sargent, he organized and started The Association of Saluda Lake which later became The Saluda Lake Association.

Over the years Ed served as a board member and president of the Civic Ballet of Greenville and The North Greenville Rotary Club, as well as a board member of the GSO and Greenville Civic Chorale. He was a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and the Wedding and Event Videographers Association.

Ed enjoyed sports and the outdoors through his passion for sailing, waterskiing, and snow skiing. He tested his fitness by competing in triathlons into his seventies. He supported Pam through her pursuits as a physician and traveled to many countries with her on mission trips to use his abilities to repair and improve infrastructure for the medical team.

Funeral Service will be on May 3rd, 2024, at 2 pm St. James Episcopal Church,  301 Piney Mountain Rd. Greenville, SC 29609-3035
