Eda Florence "Flossie" Loftis, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at the age of 80 in Mauldin, South Carolina. Born on August 9, 1943, in Laurens, South Carolina, Flossie was a cherished daughter to the late Rosa Beatrice Hellams and Grady Bullock Scurry. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Lee Loftis, Sr., and together they built a life filled with joy and enduring memories.
Flossie's educational journey was marked by her passion for learning and helping others. She graduated from Laurens High School and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Winthrop University. Her love for education did not stop there, as she furthered her studies and obtained a Master's Degree from Furman University. Flossie dedicated her life to educating young minds as a Home Economics Teacher, shaping countless lives with her wisdom and care. After she retired from teaching, she continued to serve her community through her work at Walmart, where she made many lasting friendships.
The family was the cornerstone of Flossie's life. She is survived by her loving sons, Kenneth "Lee" Loftis, Jr. (Jennifer) and Nathan Carl Loftis; her adoring grandchildren, Keenan and Neil; her devoted sister, Dr. Carolyn S. (William P.) Brown; and her caring sister-in-laws, Susan Stouffer and Elaine (Brabham) Dukes. She is also survived by 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and great-nieces and nephews whom she also loved dearly. Flossie was a guiding light in her family, and her legacy of love will continue to live on through them.
Flossie's interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were fulfilling. She had a talent for sewing, creating beautiful pieces that were both practical and artistic. Her love for reading books was matched only by her enjoyment of crossword puzzles, which kept her mind sharp and engaged. Flossie found solace in her garden, where she nurtured plants with the same tenderness she showed to those around her. Her passion for photography captured the beauty of the world and the cherished moments spent with family and friends.
Those who knew Flossie would describe her as loving, kind, and generous. She had a heart that knew no bounds and a spirit that uplifted everyone she encountered. Her gentle presence and warm smile comforted all, and her generosity extended beyond her family to everyone she met.
Flossie's life was a testament to the power of love and the impact one person can have on the world around them. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive by those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye to Eda Florence "Flossie" Loftis, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of compassion, and brimming with grace. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love will continue to inspire us all.
