Loving mother, daughter, and friend, Dorothy Louise Jernigan, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2022 after a long 8 1/2 year battle with Alzheimers.
Dorothy was born to Arthur and Jeanie Jerkins in 1936 in Range, Alabama. A member of the church from a
very young age, Dorothy was active in church at Range Assembly of God and sang in the choir alongside her family.
Now that Dorothy has passed in the arms of the Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end
of Dorothy’s physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her.
As a young girl, Dorothy and her father sang gospel music on a radio show every Sunday morning before
regular church services.
She had an exciting life of travel and adventure. She lived in Alabama, Florida, Massachusetts, Mississippi,
Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina, and spent many summers in California.
She and her husband Bruce traveled to retired Navy functions in Hawaii, Alaska, and across the United States.
She was an excellent singer, accomplished photographer, and was an Interior Designer for most of her
business career. She enjoyed traveling, singing, gardening and spending time with family.
She (in her 50’s) and her sister, Doris, took care of their parents by alternating weeks for many years so that Jeanie and Arthur could delay being placed in assisted living. This was a huge commitment by both Dorothy and Doris.
She joins her parents, her husband, Charles Bruce Jernigan and her siblings Marie Bush, Doris Helen Owens, and Arthur Allen Jerkins in Heaven.
She is survived by many loving family members, including her son William Keith Gardner (Jennifer), daughters Diana Louise Beasley, Marisa Jeanette Pierce (David); granddaughters April Michelle Beasley, Ashten Marisa Beasley; great grandson David Pacey Beasley; sister Lilly Helms-Kee (Daffin); nephew Allan Dale Owens
(Shelia).
Please join us to celebrate her life at her memorial service on Friday, April 8th, 2022 at 12 noon at Range
Assembly of God Church (28150 Hwy 41, Repton, AL). Pastor Barbara Green will be conducting the
service. We will have time for fellowship after the service with lunch provided by the members of Range
Assembly of God Church.
