DOROTHY ANN (GRIFFIN) ASHLEY (1935-2018)
EASLEY
Dorothy “Dot” Ashley, 82, went to be with her Savior on Sunday evening, March 18, 2018.
She was born in Whiting, Maine, on October 29, 1935, the daughter of William H. and Mary (Demmons) Griffin. She graduated from Washington Academy in 1953.
On September 30, 1961, Dorothy married Dexter L. Ashley of East Machias, Maine, whom she cherished for the next 48 years. Together they reared five children who would, in time, give them 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was a loving mother and always considered that to be her most important role. She was always known as a dynamo, working circles around most people. Her spaghetti sauce and doughnuts were legendary. She retired in 2001 after 17 years working for the United States Postal Service. Prior to that, she had multiple occupations serving her community.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her brother Clyde, and sister Lucille. She is survived by her daughter Terry and her husband Michael Scott of Camden, SC; her son Dwayne Geel and his wife Betty of Kingsport, TN; her son Dwight Geel and his wife Debbie of Ellsworth, ME; her son Dexter John Ashley and his wife Holli of Lake Ariel, PA; her daughter Mary and her husband Bill Clater of Easley, SC; two sisters – Beth Stephens and Elaine Look, and two brothers – John Griffin and William Griffin, Jr.
“Nana” adored her twelve grandchildren: Joshua, Jennifer, Logan, Cheyenne, Jessica, Jason, Shawn, Shauna, Dwight Jr., Heather, Andrew, and Stephen.
A memorial service will be held at the Ashley Family Cemetery in East Machias, Maine, on June 30, 2018.
