Doris Powers Richardson

Lifelong Greenvillian and beloved mother and grandmother Doris Powers Richardson died on June 25, 2023. She was 91.

Born June 29, 1931, Doris was the daughter of Durey Francis Powers and Vina Hickman Powers. She was a graduate of Parker High School and Winthrop College. For many years she worked as a legal secretary and tax preparer in the office of Robert A. Dobson.

Doris was an avid golfer who played – and frequently won competitions -- at Fox Run Country Club. She and her late husband, Hewer Richardson, traveled extensively with friends and played at courses from the beach to the mountains, from the east coast to Hawaii.

Following her husband’s death in 2010, she joined Senior Action, playing cards and dominoes, attending lectures and exercising five days a week. She and her Parker High alumni group continued to meet regularly until weeks before her death.

Doris was a good friend to many, and a supportive mother and grandmother. Her six grands joined her for frequent meals and “Dancing with the Stars,” each convinced that he/she was the favorite.

She is survived by three children, Deb Richardson-Moore (Vince), Rick Richardson (Candace), and Lori Richardson Bradley (Robert); six grandchildren, Dustin Moore Husband (Michael), Taylor Moore, Madison Moore, Samantha Bradley Moore (Ryan), Robin Bradley, and Maggie Richardson; one great- grandson, Bennie Moore, and a nephew, Ronald Powers (Chris).

The family would like to thank Open Arms Hospice and Doris’s special friends from Parker High, Senior Action and Triune Mercy Center.

Over the years, Doris was a member of Overbrook Baptist Church, Triune Mercy Center and most recently, Pelham Road Baptist. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM July 6 at Pelham Road Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the church or to Senior Action.
