Donnie Stancil

September 15, 1955 — June 12, 2024

Donnie Ray Stancil, known affectionately by his nickname "Buck," passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, sitting on his front porch at the age of 68 in his hometown of Greenville.

Born on September 15, 1955, to the late William Otis Stancil and Mary Louise Darnell, Greer, SC. Buck was a dedicated family man who spent his life entertaining family and friends. "Buck" was one to never let his disability slow him down. Always walking around with his cane he would tell anyone who asked how he was doing, "I'm alright. leave me alone" He would tell everyone, " Back in my day I was on the roof before the sun came up and I worked until dark"

Leaving behind a wife Linda Hamby, Buck was predeceased by his parents, his brothers William A. Stancil and J. Wayne Stancil, his beloved granddaughter Sabrina Bishop Lowery, and his niece Melissa Hudson. He was a cherished member of a large and loving family. His surviving siblings, Kenneth D. Stancil, Mary Roberson (Owen Roberson), Sandra Smith (Wayne Smith), and Judy Massey (Sonny Massey), along with his nieces and nephews—Amanda Stancil, Stacey Bensch, Tonya Smith, Chad Smith, Dale Stancil, Jerry Wayne Stancil, and Crystal Stancil—will remember him with love and fondness. Buck's legacy extends to his great nieces and nephews, who will carry forward the memories of his generous spirit.

A dedicated father, Buck is survived by his daughters, Tina Louise Lewis (Christopher Lewis) of Tennessee, and Denise Elizabeth Hamby Stephenson (Jason Stephenson) of Greenville. His role as a grandfather was one he embraced with joy and pride, leaving behind a legacy in his grandchildren, Joseph Dontae Hufflin (Bre Lamb), Tyler Edward Hart, Skylar Leroy Hart, Jason Dewayne Stephenson Jr., Stacia Denise Richards (Kyle Richards), and Destiny Nicole Bishop. His great-grandchildren, Natalie Lowery, Madalyn Lowery, Desire Lamb, Amya Williams, Aiden Williams, Jaiden Williams, My"Angel" Shelby and Bre'keal, Shelby Anna Richards, Vinny Richards, Johnny Richards, and Bo Richards, will grow up with stories of his loving nature. Buck was predeceased by his great-grandchild, Baby AJ Lowery.

A self-employed roofer, Buck took pride in his craft and was well-known within the community for his dedication to his work. His hands-on skills were only matched by his unwavering commitment to his family and friends. Buck's home was often the heart of gatherings, where his talent for entertaining and his friendly demeanor made everyone feel welcome. Those who knew him would describe Buck as a loving and generous man, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh.

Buck's interests went beyond his professional life, as he was a dedicated family man first and foremost. He relished the time spent with his loved ones and was known for his ability to turn any gathering into a memorable occasion. His warmth and kindness extended beyond his family, touching the lives of many in his community.

The words that best describe Buck are loving, generous, and friendly—traits that were evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His presence brought light and laughter to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As we bid farewell to Buck, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of love, laughter, and kindness.

His legacy of warmth and generosity will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. Buck Stancil will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light to those he leaves behind. May "Buck" Donnie rest in peace knowing he was cherished and loved by many.
