Donnie Eugene George

May 18, 1941 — February 4, 2025

Greenville, SC

Donnie Eugene George, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2025 at his home in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on may 18th, 1941 in Greenville, he was a lifelong resident who played ball in many of the Mill Village's ball fields.

Donnie's late wife, Barbara, preceded him in death after a 64 year marriage. Donnie took pleasure in knowing his daughter, Donna Howard, and son, Michael George, had the same hard working values he instilled in them by the example he set. He was proud of his nine grandchildren and also had five great-grandchildren.

The middle son of Furman and Ruby George, he is survived by his older brother, Furman George Jr., who he shared a birthday with, and predeceased by his younger brother Larry George.

He took an early retirement from the Maintenance Department at 3m Company and could be found walking around the campus at Furman University until his health began to fail. He took pleasure in cutting grass and working in his yard, and loved the hum of the mower and weed eater.

He was an enthusiast of a bygone era, and quick to point out the year and make of vintage cars. And if Hank Williams was playing in the background, he was all the more happy. In his later years, he loved the game of solitaire, and played it daily.

Donnie was deeply rooted in the Church of God of prophecy, being raised in the faith by his devoted mother. His funeral will take place at Carolina Heights Christian Fellowship on Saturday, February 8th, 2025. Visitation at 2pm, followed by services at 2:30 pm.

A special mention, and thank you to Donnie's son-in-law, Mike Howard, who with a willing spirit, helped take care of Donnie night and day for the last few months of his life.
