Don L. Lester, 81, of Greenville, SC died December 31, 2018, with his family present. He was born on March 26, 1937 in Bartow, Fla. and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolores; daughter; Kimberly Anderson of Columbia, SC; daughter; Lori Lyles of Charleston, SC, and son Lee Lester (Janet) of Boiling Springs, SC; five grand children; Blair Rosemeyer (Jim), Emily Koch (J.D.), Cooper Anderson, Elliott Lyles, Kaitlyn Boyd (Quinten), and one great grandson; Benji Koch. He is also survived by one sister, Jimmie Jean Pattey of Lakeland, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; Jim and Mary Lynn Lester and his brother; Leon.
Don was a graduate of Summerlin Institute, Bartow, Fla., Erskine College, Due West, SC, and The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He served seven years in the United States Army, singing in the United States Army Chorus.
Don taught choral music at Dunedin High School, Dunedin, Fla.; was Director of the Conservatory of Music at Columbia College, Columbia, Mo., where his select choral group was chosen for a USO tour to Greenland and Iceland, and taught voice and choral music at his alma mater, Erskine College. During his teaching years, he directed many church choirs and taught private voice lessons.
After his teaching career, he worked for Liberty Life Insurance Company, Allstate Insurance Company (Life Specialist), and owned a Nationwide Insurance Agency. During these years he received the following designations for advanced study: LUTCF, CLU, ChFC.
Don was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for 26 years. He was also active in the Men's Club, serving one term as president.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church, designated for the music ministry.
