Diane Patricia Smith, known affectionately as Diane to her friends and loved ones, passed away on June 22, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Glendive, Montana, on June 11, 1939, Diane was a beacon of light and wisdom to all who knew her. She departed this world in Greenville, South Carolina, leaving behind a legacy of love, education, and service.

Diane was the cherished daughter of the late Donald and Mary Davis and grew up alongside her brothers. She was predeceased by her brother Barry Davis and her beloved husband, Max Smith. She is survived by her brothers, Leonard Davis (Winnie) and Donald Davis (Sherry), her nieces, Candace Davis (Paul Johansen), Shanyn Richtmyer (Tim) her nephew Spencer Davis (Ali), Claudia Lee (Tommy Li) niece, Nicole Alebrandi (Sabin) niece, two stepdaughters, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

An intelligent and thoughtful woman, Diane's academic pursuits led her to earn a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and History , followed by a Teacher's Certificate. Her passion for education and nurturing young minds was evident through her dedicated career as an Intern Coordinator at the Greenville Hospital System.

Diane's interests were as varied as they were rich. She lived an adventurous life, calling places like St. Thomas, Miami, and Alaska home throughout her years. Her travels took her across the globe to destinations including China and Croatia, experiences that no doubt enriched her understanding and appreciation of the world's vast tapestry of cultures.

Her faith-filled nature was a cornerstone of her existence, providing her with strength and solace throughout her life's journey. Diane's intelligence was matched by her thoughtful consideration of others. She had a unique ability to listen intently, advise wisely, and comfort those in need with her gentle spirit.

An ardent animal lover, Diane's pets were her joy and companions. Her dogs and cats were not just pets but members of her family, receiving all the love and care she could give.

Diane's life was one of purpose and impact. Her presence was a gift to those around her, and her absence will be profoundly felt. We honor Diane's memory by reflecting on the love she shared, the knowledge she imparted, and the grace with which she lived her life. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her influence will continue to be felt by the many students she guided and the family she adored.

In accordance with her life's example, we are reminded to live fully, love generously, and leave the world a little better than we found it. Diane Patricia Smith did just that, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
