Dewayne Edward Barksdale

Dewayne Edward Barksdale, a cherished son of Greenville, SC, and a beacon of joy to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, in his hometown at the age of 61. Born on June 28, 1963, to the late Nelson and Dorothy S. Barksdale, Dewayne's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of love and laughter.

Dewayne, affectionately known by friends and family simply as "Box," was a proud graduate of Southside High School's Class of 1981. His early education laid the foundation for a successful career in manufacturing, from which he eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

Throughout his life, Dewayne was known for his unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his sisters Towana and Sophia Barksdale, brother Timothy Barksdale, niece Jada Charley, and nephew Andre Brown. He was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Dorothy S. Barksdale, and his brother Winston Michael Barksdale. The bonds he shared with each of them were unique and filled with countless cherished moments.

A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dewayne's loyalty to his team was as steadfast as his commitment to his family. His passion for the game was only matched by his love for fishing, where he found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. Family cookouts were also a special part of Dewayne's life, where he reigned as the undisputed chef, bringing together those he loved with the flavors and laughter that defined many a gathering.

Dewayne's sense of style was impeccable. Known for his GQ dressing, he had an eye for detail and a flair for fashion that made him stand out in any crowd. His presence was not only marked by his sartorial elegance but also by his infectious humor and the courage with which he faced life's challenges.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mt Carmel AME Church in Gray Court SC on Saturday December 21, 2024 at the 2:00pm.
